Yesterday Lennox took part in the annual Charity Football Match at The Bank of England Sports Ground, Roehampton. As usual it was Dealers V Auctioneers and as always seems to be the case on this particular Friday in the year, the sun shone down gloriously. Infact a little too hot for the players but wonderful for us spectators!
This year it was the Auctioneers turn to win by one goal! At the end of the match the result was a 3 all draw, so onto a penalty shoot out in true 'England' tradition! Unfortunately our goalie let one slip in, so making the score 4-3. A well deserved win though and an amazing £13,000 was raised for The Haven www.thehaven.org.uk Thank goodness Lennox managed to score in the shoot out, he hasn't missed scoring in all the nine years we have been attending, and he is determined not to let that slip!
This event was started by Lennox and, although we have not been on the organising side of things for the past 3 years, next year maybe a little different. To mark its 10th anniversary the committee headed by Ed Flaxman Johnson of www.flaxmanfinejewellery.com are thinking of hosting something a little larger. No doubt we may be tempted to get involved, so watch this space for future updates.
The whole event is a great opprtunity for the many aspects of the antiques business to get together and socialise, and by raising money at the same time makes it a very worthwhile occasion.
The Bank of England Sports Ground is a wonderful venue www.bankofenglandsportscentre.co.uk and in the evening a delicious BBQ is served. Addison Gelpy of www.criterionauctioneers.com hosts a highly entertaining auction and the evening is rounded of with an excellent raffle.
Look out for the dates next year, players and spectators alike are most welcome.
