18th century George I small chest of drawers

A rare and charming George I period small burr ash veneered chest of drawers with a wonderful patina.
By its nature ash does not oxidize and darken like most woods. In this case a tinted varnish has combined with a build-up of dust and wax in minute abrasions caused by everyday use to form this wonderful patination of great depth. This has attractively rubbed through to the lighter wood beneath on the mouldings and edges.
It has the lovely feature of the top being quarter veneered and crossbanded. The drawer fronts are also crossbanded.
The whole is veneered on a pine carcass as one would expect on a piece of this period and is supported on the original bracket feet.
The later finely cast brass handles and escutcheons retain a lacquered finish.
