Pair of 18th century gouache paintings by Johann Joseph Hartmann

A fine pair of 18th century Swiss Lakeland views painted in gouache and framed in fine gilt-wood frames by Johann Joseph Hartmann (1735 – 1830) The pictures show the Island of St. Peter by the lake of St. Bienne depicting the arrival of Rousseau who lived there for a short time in 1765. Signed Hartmann a Bienne 1788. 28 x 42cm (11ins x 16.5ins)
